After a magical night spent in a Bubble, the vast paradise of Iceland’s south coast lays before you. On this leg of the journey, you’ll travel through some of the region’s most beloved waterfalls and landmarks. 

The south coast is an endless expanse of black sand beaches, dramatic cliffs, lighthouses, and cliffside waterfalls. Dan+Chelle expertly lead you through the things you can’t miss, and a few things you might have missed while you were checking out the view. 

You’ll walk behind towering Seljalandsfoss, climb thundering Skógafoss, and have the option to explore all of the lesser-known hidden gems between them. You can even choose to make the trek to the Sólheimasandur plane wreck- a favorite of photographers everywhere. 

But don’t get too used to staying dry! The south coast has its fair share of hot springs as well, and you just might need to add another restorative soak before collapsing into a lush feather bed in the seaside village of Vík. Pass the night in this cozy southern town and knock back some local brews while you enjoy the crashing surf on one of Iceland’s most famous black sand beaches.

You awaken in one of Iceland’s most stunning villages. Vík í Mýrdal is a seaside town on the south coast that overlooks slumbering volcanoes to the north, and the wild ocean to the south. 

From the black sand deserts in the volcano’s path to the sea caves in the basalt cliffs on the shore- this is a place where you can truly witness the incredible power of nature.

And yet, in the middle of all of that strength, lies a bustling little town. We set aside a whole day for exploring this paradise, and after you lay eyes on it you’ll see why. 

Wander among local treasures like the Reyniskirkja church, and tread night black sand on the Reynisfjara beach. Fill your soul with home cooking in tiny diners, and climb the Dyrhólaey promontory for a legendary view of the open sea. 

The caves and coastal treasures of Vík are countless. But if you’re up for it, you have the option to steal away on a guided tour into Katla’s own ice caves, for a crystalline adventure under the volcano that made this place.

At the edge of the known world lies the fabled Diamond Beach. A black sand beach littered with glittering chunks of pristine ice. One of Iceland’s greatest treasures, this area is home to Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull. 

The drive from Vík is quiet and colorful as you meander through long fields of moss-covered lava. It’s a soothing palate cleanser for the snake-like curves of the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, and the wide basalt embrace of Svartifoss waterfall. As you meander through the countryside, you can choose to stop at any of these handpicked favorites. You’ll quickly see that out here, the shapes of nature are wild and dramatic.

The glaciers and volcanoes built this island, so it is only fitting that you pay a visit to the source. Get up close and personal with icebergs as they calve off into the Jökulsárlón lagoon, and float out to sea. See the lines of ash in the ice, reminding us how many years passed before we ever walked here.  

Spend a peaceful moment next to the water at Fjallsárlón, and listen to the melting of a giant. A visit to this place will change you.

After a life-altering date with an iceberg, it’s time to head back to Reykjavik for some much needed relaxing. You’ve trekked the entire length of the island, and seen some of the best vistas that Iceland has to offer. Relive the awe of the south coast as you cruise back to Reykjavik from your HQ in Vík, and prepare to enjoy some of the capital’s finest. 

In Reykjavik, you can climb the spire of Hallgrímskirkja Church, peruse artisan shops, catch some live music, or grab a fresh, warm pastry in one of the best little bakeries in town. Take a refreshing walk on our shoreline, and look out at the view that inspired generations before us to make their homes here.
